What Does a Restoration Technician Do?

A restoration technician (restoration tech, production technician or disaster restoration tech) answers water, fire, smoke and mold losses at homes and businesses: extracting water, setting and monitoring drying equipment, tearing out wet or burned materials, cleaning soot and odor, and documenting the job with readings and photos.

Techs work for restoration companies, franchise locations such as SERVPRO or PuroClean, and regional and national restorers, often on an after-hours on-call rotation.

Most start with on-the-job training and earn IICRC certifications such as WRT and ASD.
